EDIT TO ALL THIS AT THE END 🙁 The Free service is ending and I feel I should be super upfront with you guys as well. I’m updating this as quick as I can, so yeah everything below and before the updated info will not be true as of Nov 16, except maybe the discount link for the phones.

Last year I introduced you guys to Scratch Wireless and today I want to tell you about their new phone they just released and are shipping units out right now.

Scratch Wireless takes a new approach to cell phone service. They don’t give you a bill!! Thats right it is free. Unlimited Text EVERYWHERE, Unlimited calls and data on Wifi. If you need to make calls or use data off wifi they offer voice and data packs that are CRAZY minimal.

Their new phones are the Coolpad Arise – they are on Android 4.4 Kit Kat, 2 MP Rear Camera, Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS. The phone is small but it feels super sturdy. It totally passes the typical squeeze test without any weakness feeling. It response quickly, there is no laggyness. Call quality over Wifi is excellent. I am sure it is dependent on the connection your connected too, but so far between work and home its been great.

June 16 – June 18 Scratch Wireless is offering their new phones at a discounted price of $79.00– usually $99. So grab one for your dad or your grad and save them on their cellular expense.

Today October 29, 2015 I got an email from Scratch Wireless stating the below information

To Our Valued Scratch Wireless Customers,

It is with sadness that we announce the high cost of operations and regulatory requirements have caused us to change our pricing model. It has been difficult for us to provide our customers with an entirely freemium model with the high costs associated with supporting E911, universal service tax pass-throughs, porting, and texting over the cellular network.

While we commit to continue to provide great service at a low cost we will implement these new passes on Monday November 16th.

Voice Passes (Wi-Fi and Cellular)
Unlimited Month Pass: $9.99

Data Passes (Cellular only – includes text messaging)
200MB Month Pass: $7.99
500MB Month Pass: $14.99
1GB Month Pass: $24.99

Charging for texting on the cellular network and all voice will allow us to meet increasing costs while we continue to provide our valued service.

We appreciate your support and understanding. If you have any questions about the new pass options please email us at

Ok so what I am gathering from this, but I will be following up with them, it sounds like you might still be able to text for free over wi-fi, but that seems that might be it on the free part. But still if you are needing a super affordable cell phone plan this will get you by.
